About Us

The Heart of Oregon APA Chapter was established July 2004, thanks to the late Barry Ostrom, Past President and founder . We are a fun, growing group located in Salem, Oregon, the state's capital. Our primary focus is to provide education and networking opportunities for Willamette Valley's payroll practitioners and related fields.

Monthly meetings are held on the second Thursday of every month.  Most meetings are in the evening at Chemeketa Community College.  Daytime quarterly meetings are generally held at Pringle Hall Community Center.  Meetings have RCH approved educational topics, as well as updates that affect the payroll profession. Visitors are encouraged to attend and consider membership.

In the fall, the Heart of Oregon puts on an affordable annual statewide payroll conference.  On even years, the chapter hosts certification study groups for the Payroll Professional (CPP) and Fundamental Payroll (FPC), in advance of the spring testing window. More information can be found on the CPP/FPC page.  On odd years, the chapter plans to conduct events promoting the payroll profession.

The chapter is always looking for ways to be involved in their community.  One great example is an ongoing event called Donate & Dine, where chapter participants meet at the Red Cross blood donation center, make their donation, then meet at a local resteraunt for dinner afterwards.
